Baker & Partners Receive High Level of Local Interest For Breakfast Briefing on the Removal, Replacement and Retirement of Trustees

Baker & Partners, a premier litigation and dispute resolution practice based in Jersey, will hold their next Breakfast Briefing discussing the Three Rs: Removal, Replacement and Retirement of trustees, on Thursday 12th February, 8.00am-9.30am at the Royal Yacht. Jersey businesses have demonstrated a marked interest in the briefing, with registered attendance almost at maximum capacity.

The briefing will cover a host of legal and practical issues for trustees faced with the prospect of leaving office. It will be led by Advocate William Redgrave and Associate James Sheedy who will also discuss knowing when to jump before being pushed if encountering friction from beneficiaries, facing applications to court for removal – including cases of breach of trust, conflicts of interest, costs, and tying up loose ends – and also trickier points when negotiating and structuring indemnities.

William Redgrave is a Jersey Advocate and English Barrister with extensive experience in litigation, with a focus on advocacy. William has appeared in many notable recent civil decisions in Jersey, covering subjects such as Anton Piller orders, forum non conveniens and contempt of court.

James Sheedy is an English barrister who joined Baker & Partners as an Associate in January 2014. He specialises in traditional Chancery work and contentious trusts. James has experience in breach of trust claims, issues about trust administration and trustee powers, enforcement of judgments against trustees and issues concerning trustees’ costs.

Speaker James Sheedy commented:

“I’m keen to explore these issues with my colleague William Redgrave and various members of the Jersey business community. We will cover the most salient issues for both Jersey businesses and trustees in this area, and will draw upon real life examples to clarify the legal and practical implications as they stand. This promises to be a productive, interesting and relevant briefing for a cross section of businesses in Jersey, and I look forward to having this conversation.”

Breakfast will be provided from 8.00am, there are a small number of tickets left. Those interested in attending can RSVP on the Eventbrite page or contact Christian May, Business Development Manager at or telephone: +44(0)1534 766254.
