Arbitrating International Family Wealth Disputes

As private wealth becomes increasingly global, disputes involving trusts, succession arrangements, family businesses and cross-border asset structures are testing the boundaries of traditional dispute resolution. Questions of ownership, control and legacy now frequently span multiple jurisdictions, legal systems and generations.

Against this backdrop, arbitration is emerging as an increasingly attractive mechanism for resolving international family wealth disputes. Yet fundamental questions remain. Can a process developed for commercial disputes effectively accommodate the unique complexities of family wealth? Where does arbitration provide a genuine advantage, and where do the courts remain indispensable?

This session will bring together leading practitioners from the fields of international arbitration and private wealth to examine the opportunities and challenges. The cross-jurisdiction panellists will explore confidentiality, enforceability, trust and succession structures, asset protection, and the growing tension between private dispute resolution and public legal oversight.
