Julian was called to the English Bar in July 1983 and sworn in as Jersey Advocate in March 1990. He has extensive experience of litigation and in particular criminal law before the Jersey Courts. He was appointed as a Crown Advocate in September 1996.
He started his legal career in Jersey with the firm of Crills, becoming a Partner in that firm in 1993. He remained a Partner following the merger of Crills with the international law firm, Walkers in 2006. Having a desire to focus on his specialist areas of practice, he left Walkers in October 2012 and joined Baker & Partners as a Partner in November 2012.
Julian’s practice was initially mixed litigation including criminal defence work and general civil litigation with a slant towards insolvency; including acting for the Administrators in the Polly Peck case and the liquidators in the BCCI case. In more recent years his practice has become more specialised and he has been involved in high profile and serious crimes such as murder, manslaughter, rape and drug trafficking offences. He undertakes both prosecution and defence work.
Since joining Baker & Partners he has also been involved in high profile investigative litigation work relating to asset recovery on behalf of governments worldwide.
He is a Door Tenant of Old Square Chambers London/Bristol.
